Quinoa comes from the Andes in South America and has been very popular here in Switzerland for a long time. Quinoa is a real health booster because it contains vegetable protein, iron, folic acid, magnesium, zinc and manganese. Anyone who has ever traveled through South America knows that there are delicious quinoa drinks for breakfast, for example with pineapple. Here is a recipe idea for quinoa porridge, delicious and filling for the ideal start to the day.
Ingredients for 1 person
80g quinoa
2 dl whole milk (you can also use sheep's milk, almond milk, rice milk or water)
1 pinch of salt
¼ tsp cinnamon
¼ tsp ground vanilla
1 tbsp chopped nuts
1 tbsp maple syrup
Preparation
Rinse the quinoa in a fine-mesh sieve (preferably with hot water) so that it does not taste bitter afterwards.
Slowly bring to the boil with the milk and cinnamon and then cook over a low heat according to the packet instructions.
Stir occasionally and check that it is not boiling too much or burning. If the liquid is absorbed before the quinoa is cooked, add a little more milk or water.
Then stir in the vanilla, pour the porridge into a bowl and garnish with the chopped nuts and maple syrup.
This breakfast can be eaten hot or cold.
