Overcome your inner bastard: How to make it with losing weight

You look down at yourself... and realize that you've put on a few extra pounds. Your pants are pinching a little and you don't really feel comfortable in your skin anymore. You realize that you no longer want to do some things because of your figure. The time has come: the excess kilos have to go.

You review your eating and exercise habits and quickly realize:

  1. You have eaten too much or simply too much of the wrong things
  2. You simply haven't exercised enough either


You put one and one together and decide that in future you will eat healthily and exercise at least three times a week. The type of sport is determined by the calorie consumption - jogging is at the top of the list. Food is reduced to a minimum of calories or carbohydrates are simply omitted.

Highly motivated, you set yourself goals using the Herculean tactic: do everything right from now on without exception. Maybe you buy a current fitness magazine in which you are also motivated to do just 10 minutes of physical exercises a day to finally become slim and beautiful.

Not forgetting the recipe app, which can calculate and break down every food from every angle. So you're perfectly prepared. Nothing stands in your way. You're ready to go!

You get your sneakers out of the cupboard, put on your sporty clothes and get going! You run to the first lamppost...to the second...to the third...curse your poor fitness inwardly...and finally hug the fourth lamppost - completely out of breath. But at least you made it a few meters, you think. You prefer to go home at walking pace. It's supposed to be good.

An iceberg salad with low-fat yoghurt dressing and oil-free tuna awaits you at home. You've never really been a fan of salad. But you can't do without it, and after all, you can get used to anything. To watch TV, you carve a few celery sticks and carrot sticks and put them on the table with a low-fat quark dip.

There's another way to enjoy it, you think, but grit your teeth. You start the next morning with the workout from the magazine and quickly realize that the exercises are not as fun and not as easy as they look. After an organic fruit salad with nuts in the morning, an energy-less morning at work and a small portion of zucchini with steamed pollack, you think longingly of the time when you simply feasted.

And off he goes. The bastard. Within seconds, you're persuaded to question the project again. To simply relax more. Treat yourself to something - you work so much. He convinces you not to be so hard on yourself. You You should just accept your fate - you're not Claudia Schiffer.

And you don't stand a chance, because the bottom line is that the bastard has the best arguments. It always wins. But why is that the case? Why do we know how to do it but still don't do it?

The answer is surprisingly simple: because you're not having fun. Everything we enjoy and are passionate about, we like to do and therefore do permanently. And you simply don't listen to what you really need.

Lose weight in 6 steps and overcome your inner bastard

Step 1: One and one are not two when it comes to losing weight. There are reasons why you are behaving the way you are at the moment. Find out in which situations you eat conspicuously much or high in calories. Are you a stress eater? Or do you eat out of frustration? Boredom? Habit? Whatever the reason - it's emotional!

Step 2: Find an adequate substitute to satisfy your emotions. Do you want to reduce stress? Then perhaps exercise or a relaxing bath will help! Try out different options! This can also take a while - after all, we've been practising some things for years!

Step 3: Don't just change the food - otherwise you won't have learned anything apart from food. Carrots instead of chocolate may be lower in calories, but they don't work in the long term. You will quickly fall back into old habits.

Step 4: Have fun! All the measures you take in future to achieve your feel-good weight should be fun. Pick a sport that you are passionate about! Then you will also look forward to exercising after work. Learn to eat with pleasure and become a gourmet!

Step 5: Learn to think like a naturally slim person! See yourself in your mind's eye as you would like to be. This motivates and signals: I can do it!

Step 6: Surround yourself with people who have already achieved your goal. Your environment is crucial to your success. Do you only have people around you who have failed with diets so far? They won't be able to help you or give you enough support. Look for people who are optimistic and active!
