Make your own chocolate - it's easy with just 3 ingredients

Making your own chocolate is much easier than you think. And it tastes simply heavenly and is certainly healthier than many supermarket alternatives. In any case, you know exactly what's in your homemade chocolate.

As a healthy lifestyle is largely determined by a balanced diet, I'm always developing, trying out and writing down recipes. This was the first time in my life that I made chocolate myself.

Somehow I had always lacked the motivation to do this because I thought it was a bit time-consuming. Until I realized: You only need 3 ingredients and it only takes about 30 minutes to eat the chocolate. So it's a quick recipe! And one that is also suitable for vegans.

Utensils required for the recipe

  • saucepan
  • Metal bowl for the bain-marie
  • Mould for the liquid mixture

You don't need a special mold, but can spread the chocolate mixture on a baking tray lined with baking paper and leave to cool.

Make your own chocolate: Basic ingredients for 1 bar

Prozess um Schokolade selber zu machen im Topf100g cocoa butter

60g pure cocoa powder

3

tablespoons maple syrup (or honey)

1

pinch of untreated salt (optional, I left it out)
Other ingredients to taste (chopped nuts, chopped dried fruit, candied citrus peel)

Preparation of the home-made chocolate latte

Chop the cocoa butter into small pieces (or use one that already comes in pieces) and place in a small saucepan. Fill a larger saucepan with water and bring the water to the boil. Remove the pan from the heat.

Then melt the cocoa butter in a bain-marie. Do this by placing the bowl with the cocoa butter in the larger saucepan filled with hot water. Make sure that no water gets into the small pot. You only want to melt the cocoa butter, not dilute it. Also, the cocoa butter should not get too hot.

Sieve the cocoa powder into a bowl (to eliminate any lumps) and then mix well with the melted cocoa butter and maple syrup.

Pour the thick chocolate onto a baking tray lined with baking paper and spread into a rectangle using a spatula. The consistency was just right for me, not too runny and not too firm.

Leave as is or sprinkle with the garnish of your choice. I used chopped almonds and raisins. Leave to harden in a cool place. Personally, I put them in the freezer for a short time (about 10 minutes), but I don't know if it would be better in the fridge. I just can't fit a baking tray in the fridge ;-)

Cut into squares with a large knife, taste and store the chocolate in the fridge.

Of course, you can also use chocolate molds such as hearts or pour the chocolate onto the base of cupcake molds to make round cookies.
