Investing in your own health - and more than just money

A little health thriller ....

Imagine going for a walk in the park when the weather is nice and enjoying the sun on your skin. You feel energized and full of life. Not a soul is around, no one is disturbing the peace. You continue along the path and hear a rustling behind you.

Suddenly, two dark figures jump out of the bushes, you get a huge fright and stand there paralyzed as the two gangsters snatch something from you that you have always taken for granted and "just there": your health!

One of the kidnappers murmurs threateningly to you: "Don't call the police under any circumstances! We'll be in touch." He uses his thumb to indicate a cutting motion on his neck.

The moment of surprise and the shock leave you completely dazed, you look after the kidnappers as they disappear into the bushes with your health in tow and can't make a sound. You slump down on the park bench and your mind races as you imagine how your life will go on without your health.

Terrible images appear before your inner eye: You will lose your job. Your friends will be less and less understanding of you. Your family will suffer too and financially everything will revolve around your state of health.

Eine Frau und ein Kind laufen einen Weg zwischen Bäumen und Hecken entlang und investieren in ihre Gesundheit.

As you become more and more desperate, your phone rings. Suppressed number. You answer it with trembling fingers and immediately recognize his voice: "You should take better care of your health."
"Where is she? How is she? Give her back." You have to control yourself not to shout. But you don't want to show your panic to the kidnapper.

"She's with us. And we'll make you a deal."
"Yes?" you ask hopefully.

"We wanted to make you aware with the kidnapping that your health is not safe with you. We could demand a ransom now. But we won't do that. We want protection money. You pay us a sufficiently high monthly sum and our organization makes sure that nobody harms your health. So if you want your health back, tell us now the highest amount you are willing to pay so that you can have your health by your side for the rest of your life."

You take a deep breath and the kidnapper adds: "And I warn you. Don't let the amount be too low. Otherwise your health will not survive today."

You take a deep breath. And think: "My health is more important to me than any luxury, because I won't be able to enjoy my life if it doesn't come back."

You calculate back and forth in your head. So many useless expenses come to mind. So there is definitely potential to save money. You would also be prepared to activate other sources of money for your health. You would finally ask your boss for an overdue pay rise. Sell your motorcycle, which you never ride anyway. Or put a room in your apartment up for vacation rental.

You are determined. You need to get your health back.

"Okay!" you say. "I've got the number."

Investing in your health costs money - but what will it cost if I don't take care of it?

What number would you have what if it had been your health that was taken? We are convinced that you would be prepared to invest quite a large sum if you could get your health back and, above all, keep it for life.

And yes, we know: You can't buy health with money! But money is a good indicator of how much you are willing to invest in yourself. How serious you are about something.

Because the first step towards a healthy lifestyle is actually to think about what it would be worth to me to be healthy. And: what does it cost me if I'm not?

And when we talk about costs, we're not just talking about money, but also time, effort, quality of life and self-worth.

Have you ever thought about the possible consequences of not taking care of your health?

  • If you are not fit and efficient, mistakes can happen at work. That could cost you your job. Or at least a promotion.
  • Poor health always costs time. Be it for visits to the doctor or simply because everything you do takes twice as long. And the time you lose is time you don't have to do the good things in life.
  • Repairing something that is broken always takes much more effort than maintaining something so that it doesn't break in the first place. Everyone knows this about cars and teeth. But it's the same with your body.
  • Your relationships with your partner, your children, your friends and your work colleagues also depend on how well you feel. It can cost you your marriage if you don't look after yourself well enough.
  • Poor health can mean that you can't go on a hike, that you can't pursue a dream job or that you have to give up a hobby. It costs you experiences, joy and satisfaction.
  • Not taking care of your health always ends up costing you more money than you could ever spend on a nutrition coach, fitness training or healthy food.

The list could go on and on.

But make your own list of what it costs you when you're not healthy. It's worth making this clear to yourself! Then you'll know how much you want to invest in your health.

But what if it's not my fault that I have complaints?

Did you feel a little resistance earlier? Or are you even feeling angry? Probably the most common objection we hear is:

But for me, it has nothing to do with my diet. It runs in our family. Or: I was told that nothing can be done about these complaints with diet or lifestyle changes.

The complaints come from too much sport. Or from my job. I would like to take care of my health. But unfortunately I don't have the time because I'm self-employed / I have to look after my family / I'm doing further training / my partner is ill...

Please be honest with yourself. Excuses show that you simply don't have enough motivation or knowledge. Nothing more. And when it comes to knowledge in particular, there seems to be a huge gap between the flood of information and what we actually know. Understanding the processes in our body.

Because it is a fact that almost all of today's ailments have to do with our modern lifestyle. That there is hardly a health problem that doesn't get at least a little better if you adopt a beneficial lifestyle. And that there is no one who really doesn't have time. Because there is always time for Facebook, TV, doctor's appointments, manicures and who knows what else!

Another objection that is often raised is: I don't want to be selfish. If I take too much care of myself, then others around me will miss out.

We would like to encourage you to simply think differently.

If you take care of yourself, then you are doing everyone around you a huge favor. Because the better you feel, the better everyone around you feels. It's like on an airplane: you put on your oxygen mask first before you help others!

How to invest in your health in everyday life

Frau investiert in ihre Gesundheit und joggt durch den Park bei Sonnenschein.

In our experience, measures relating to a healthy lifestyle either fail due to a lack of why or motivation and / or a lack of knowledge about the interrelationships.

That's why we recommend you clarify these two points first! How do you do that? There is plenty of information about the links between a healthy lifestyle and various diseases. Be it in the form of newspaper articles, blogs or books!

And if you don't have time for what is admittedly somewhat time-consuming research, then consult a nutritionist. Of course this will cost you something, we are well aware of that. But it will cost you less than if you don't take care of your health or if you have to spend an infinite amount of time on your research.

Please also make sure to directly integrate the following important points, which should follow the aforementioned motivation and knowledge:

  1. Create a long-term strategy
A two-week detox or detox cure will boost your metabolism. But to get your health on the right track once and for all, you need a longer-term plan that is suitable for everyday use and can be implemented.
  2. Go full throttle at the start
The start is crucial. Just as a rocket needs the most energy to take off, it helps if you really push yourself at the beginning. Otherwise you won't take off at all. Once you're flying, you won't need much energy to stay aloft
  3. Get at least one ally on board with you
You have to go the distance yourself. But it doesn't hurt to look for a companion. The likelihood of you sticking with it and surviving minor crises is much higher if you simply have at least one person in your life who is also on the path to a healthy lifestyle.

Invest in health - your next step

Health is our greatest asset. If you ask people what is most important to them in life, health is almost always mentioned after family. If you could pay money to be guaranteed always stay healthy, then this amount would probably be quite high.

But do your actions reflect this apparent importance of health? In any case, as a society we are getting sicker and sicker. Despite research, money and medication. Are you ready to act according to the importance? And take responsibility for your well-being again?

The path to health requires motivation. And normally we always write about what you gain when you take good care of yourself. But sometimes the motivation doesn't come from the positive and then it's worth going over what you don't want to happen.

So take the detour described above and think about the costs (not just financial) of not looking after your health.
