Most people only know grapefruit as a dessert in the classic sliced and spooned or directly peeled form. Today I have a very special grapefruit recipe for you: grilled grapefruit. Grapefruit is said to have a positive effect on cholesterol levels, insulin sensitivity, the intestines and fat digestion. This is why there are also so-called grapefruit diets, which I naturally advise against. Because one-sided crash diets are not my thing.more
But eating grapefruit from time to time - there's nothing wrong with that! In addition to valuable bitter substances, it also contains a lot of vitamin C and scores with the positive effects on health listed above.
However, there is one small warning: If you are taking medication or antibiotics (especially cholesterol-lowering drugs, blood pressure medication or anti-depressants), you should avoid grapefruit, as the fruit can drastically alter the effects and side effects of medication! Even if there are several hours between eating grapefruit and taking medication.
Grapefruit as a dessert: How did I come across this recipe?
Grilled grapefruit - I would never have thought of that! And then to sprinkle salt on top? Probably not at all. But it tastes simply heavenly.
Since I've been using Pinterest, I've been discovering exciting recipes by the meter. And since I recently wrote in one of my e-mail updates about how important it is to try out the recipes you memorize as soon as possible, I've taken myself by the nose and tested a few things.
For example, our recipe for grilled grapefruit, which I've modified to my own taste.
The recipe: Grilled grapefruit
Ingredients:
1 grapefruit
6 knobs of butter or coconut oilflakes
teaspoon maple syrup
pinch of sea salt
Topping 1
tablespoon soft butter
tablespoon maple syrup
pinch of ground vanilla
Topping 2 (vegan version)
can chilled coconut milk
teaspoon powdered sugar
pinch of ground vanilla
Preparation:
Halve the grapefruit and cut along the skin with a knife so that the flesh of the grapefruit can be easily scooped out later with a spoon. Then place the grapefruit cut-side up in an ovenproof dish, top with a few knobs of butter and drizzle with a little maple syrup.
Turn the oven grill to the highest setting and place the grapefruit halves under the grill for approx. 8 minutes until the top is lightly browned. Remove the grilled grapefruit from the oven and sprinkle with a pinch of sea salt. Leave to cool for a few minutes.
In the meantime, for topping 1, mix the very soft butter with the maple syrup and vanilla to make a buttercream.
OR
For topping 2, mix the Remove the coconut milk from the fridge without shaking it. Open and skim off the "coconut cream" that has set in the fridge. Mix with a teaspoon of powdered sugar and the vanilla using a hand mixer until you have a creamy "whipped cream".
Garnish the lukewarm grilled grapefruit with the desired topping and serve immediately.
