The website of the women's magazine "Self" features a fascinating interview with actress Gwyneth Paltrow.
In the interview, she explains what led her to change her diet: a few years ago, her body was at the end of its tether, she calmed herself down with beta blockers and Guinness before singing performances and coped with long flights with sleeping pills and wine. Add to this a lot of work and exercise, and it all led to a backlash in the form of an anxiety disorder and panic attacks.
This prompted her to follow her doctor's advice and detoxify her body. She completely gave up gluten, dairy products, sugar, coffee, eggs, alcohol, meat and processed foods for a few weeks. In the interview, her answer to the question of whether this detox diet also had an impact on the way she feels was also interesting:
"You feel lighter and your emotions become calmer. I was also at my wits end because I had a lot of unexpressed anger. I thought everyone else's feelings were more important than my own. I bottled it all up and then when I was alone in my car I would shout at road users or fight with Kelider hangers at home that had become tangled."
Getting out of stress with the right diet

Changing her diet has helped her to recognize who she is again and how she can deal with her feelings more directly.
It's great to read this "publicly", because many of my clients report similar things. They feel more self-confident, take better care of themselves, but also experience that they can concentrate better or become more resilient. Just yesterday, a 42-year-old father told me that he no longer feels aggressive since he has been eating better.
Her experience has inspired Gwyneth Paltrow to write a second cookbook. After the initial shock when she found out what she was no longer allowed to eat and then only ate wholegrain rice straight from the fridge, she decided that she wanted to eat a varied and delicious diet and still follow her doctor's recommendations.
