When is bloating actually normal?
Last week I talked about SIBO and those who suffer from SIBO are usually aware that the severe flatulence that often occurs with SIBO is by no means normal.
Flatulence is one of those topics that people tend to talk about behind closed doors. However, blog articles and newspaper reports repeatedly emphasize that bloating is considered normal. A quick Google search reveals that the bowel releases gas on average 8-25 times a day, which is either exhaled through the lungs or escapes via the anus. But is regular and frequent flatulence really as normal as is often claimed?
I say no, because it is a sign that something is wrong in the gut!
When is flatulence normal and when is it not?
The widespread opinion that daily flatulence is normal is accepted by many people. I often hear sentences like: "It's always been like that for me", "I've had it since I was a child" or "My mother also has a sensitive stomach". But should you really be so careless with the signals from your gut? When is bloating normal and when is it not?
The widespread opinion that daily flatulence is normal is accepted by many people. I often hear phrases like: "It's always been like this for me", "I've had it since I was a child" or "My mother also has a sensitive stomach". But should you really be so careless with the signals from your gut?If you suffer from bloating after a cheese fondue or if you have eaten a lot of cabbage or pulses, then I would say that this is absolutely normal and not a bad thing. Even if you have eaten quickly and hastily, possibly swallowed a lot of air while eating, or are going through a very stressful phase, then I would also say that bloating can be perfectly normal.
However, if you have flatulence daily or very regularly, if it is painful or smells bad, then it is not normal. In this case, I recommend that you take care of it.
Intestinal health as a preventive measure
The gut plays a central role in your well-being. Even minor symptoms such as "harmless bloating" should alert you, as they could indicate underlying problems. So don't wait until the symptoms get worse.
Preventive measures can help to identify and treat potential problems at an early stage.
However, you shouldn't overreact and turn every little ache into a big affair. The motto is therefore to be vigilant, but not overly sensitive.
Intestinal dysbiosis as a common cause of flatulence
Frequent flatulence can indicate intestinal dysbiosis, an imbalance of bacteria, often accompanied by a lack of acidifiers. The certainly well-intentioned advice to increase your fiber intake can, however, have exactly the opposite effect. This is because the increased consumption of vegetables and fruit (raw vegetables and fructose-rich fruit are particularly tricky) can lead to increased flatulence.
And wholemeal products can also cause discomfort if, for example, you have too little acid in your gut anyway and your digestive capacity is weak.
When should you act and what can you do?
An uncomfortable feeling in your stomach should not be ignored. If the symptoms persist, it is advisable to consult a doctor or alternative practitioner to clarify the causes. For milder flatulence, you can take a one-month cure with our preparationHerbal or thebitter elixir should be considered.
If these measures do not have the desired effect, we recommend amicrobiome analysis be carried out. This will tell you where the symptoms could be coming from. We will provide you with an interpretation and suggestions for action.
Why you should take bloating seriously
Flatulence may be omnipresent, but that doesn't make it normal. The intestine is a sensitive organ that can indicate abnormalities, so listen to it.Individual measures, from a gut-friendly diet to professional analysis, are crucial for holistic gut health.
Don't just see bloating as a temporary inconvenience, but as important signals from your body that need to be understood and interpreted.
