Hunger is not always a sign that you haven't eaten enough
It is good for your gut health not to eat all the time, but at most three times a day.
However, many people say that they can't do this because they are hungry in between. But there are different types of hunger and not all of them are a sign of not having eaten enough.
Today I'm sharing a little story from a bartender in South Tyrol. And of course the moral of the story: if you're in tune with yourself, excited about what you're doing and know that you're really good at what you do, then you won't need to eat in frustration.
There's physical hunger, which refers to the body's physical desire for food to meet its energy needs and maintain vital functions. Physical hunger is often indicated by physical symptoms such as stomach rumbling, feeling weak or difficulty concentrating. It occurs when the body has a lack of nutrients and energy and craves food to make up for it.
Then there is emotional hunger, which refers to the craving for food due to emotional or psychological needs. It is an impulsive craving for food that is not due to a physical need for food. People may eat for emotional reasons to relieve stress, combat boredom or cope with negative emotions. They often look for "comfort food" or use food as a form of reward or distraction.
And finally, there are cravings. They are strong cravings for specific foods or flavors. They can occur with both physical hunger and emotional hunger. Cravings are not usually due to a nutritional deficiency, but rather to personal preferences, memories, habits or unconscious associations. For example, someone may have a craving for chocolate because it is associated with happiness and reward.
It is important to note that physical hunger, emotional hunger and cravings can have different causes. By consciously recognizing these differences, we can learn to better understand our eating habits and develop a healthier relationship with food.
It is equally important to emphasize that everyone is individual, and different strategies may be effective for different people. It can be helpful to work with a dietitian or therapist to address specific needs and challenges.
