Out of exhaustion: How Heidi left ME/CFS behind (DG309)

Imagine you wake up in the morning and you're already tired. No walk, no shopping, you can't even hold the shower head. This was everyday life for Heidi Königs. After contracting Covid, she developed long Covid - and thus symptoms that would later fall under ME/CFS (myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome): extreme exhaustion, muscle pain, neurological deficits. And this despite the fact that no doctor could find a physical cause.

Feeling understood - a rarity
Heidi's environment reacted differently. While her closest friends and family were supportive, many others - including doctors - didn't understand her. This is a phenomenon that many sufferers are familiar with: Normal values in the laboratory do not mean that everything is fine.

The turning point: a YouTube link
Heidi was first recommended an interview with Raelyn Agel via a Facebook group for nicotine patches. And that's how she came across brain retraining. The idea behind it: The brain constantly sends alarm signals out of fear of stress! A "software error" triggered by trauma or infection. Heidi's aha moment: "That's exactly it. That's my problem."

Healing through brain training - with a plan and patience
The Gupta program, which she came across through her research, became the solution for her. She trained her brain every day for six months, learning to calm herself and accept symptoms - without fear. Supported by breathing exercises, meditation, mindfulness and later creatine as a dietary supplement, she gradually found her way back to life.

A new lifestyle - and a new awareness
Today, Heidi is completely healthy again and says she has learned a lot: about stress, nutrition, sleep and the power of nature. Mindfulness is no longer an esoteric concept for her, but an integral part of her everyday life.

An appeal to sufferers and therapists
Heidi's story is encouraging. It shows that there are ways out of exhaustion, even if they are not linear. Her wish: more openness and knowledge among medical professionals. And for those affected: "Start somewhere. You have nothing to lose, but everything to gain."
