Do you actually know your vitamin D level?
In today's episode, I talk about why some people should pay particular attention to their vitamin D intake. For example, those with high levels of skin pigmentation or people who regularly use sunscreen. We also take a look at how joint pain, mood swings and energy levels can be affected by vitamin D.We also look at the correct dosage and use of vitamin D - daily or not? Why is it not advisable to take a high dose only weekly or monthly? And why is the consumption of sugar relevant in this context?
You will find out why it is important to check your vitamin D levels regularly and get tips on how you can obtain vitamin D naturally through sun exposure. It is particularly important for me to mention here that you cannot absorb vitamin D from the sun in our latitudes in winter.
What is vitamin D important for?
- Immune system
- Against inflammation
- For the bone metabolism
- For the intestines (improves intestinal flora, chronic inflammatory bowel disease is often associated with a vitamin D deficiency)
- For the psyche
- As cancer prevention
- For better sleep
Common misconceptions
If you are outside enough, you have enough vitamin DFact is - you need to be in the sun from March to October between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., without sun cream, keeping as much skin as possible in the sun.
It is enough to take a high dose of vitamin D once a week or even once a month
It is better to take vitamin D every day. High doses get into the blood, but not into the cells. If you want to flood the body, high doses are good, but otherwise it is best to take 4000-6000 units daily.
Children don't need vitamin D because they are constantly outside
Children need vitamin D just as much. Above all, most children are smeared with sun cream from head to toe and should not play in the midday sun.
Questions from Instagram
I talked a bit about vitamin D in an Instagram story and why you need to take it. can't record here in winter. I invited people to ask me questions for this podcast episode. Here are the questions I answered in the podcast:- Is it possible to take too much vitamin D?
- Should children also supplement?
- How much vitamin D for small children?
- How often and at what time is a check-up or examination advisable?
Who should be particularly aware of vitamin D?
- Dark-skinned people
- People who only go outside with sun cream or cover up
- Athletes
- Anyone suffering from chronic inflammatory bowel disease
- People with depression / mood swings
- People with a weakened immune system
- People who are permanently stressed (stress is considered a real vitamin D robber). This is because the body tries to counteract permanent stress - and in the process, important nutrients such as vitamin D are consumed in large quantities.
- At the end of the episode, I also talked about the combination of vitamin D3 and magnesium and vitamin K2.
