How 2'-fucosyllactose can help with intestinal problems such as leaky gut and irritable bowel syndrome (DG235)

Feed - A new product for intestinal health with 2'-fucosyllactose

What is 2'-fucosyllactose?

2'-fucosyllactose is a complex carbohydrate, more precisely a human milk oligosaccharide. (Oligo=several, saccharide=sugar, i.e. a polysaccharide). Strictly speaking, it is a trisaccharide because it consists of three sugars: L-fucose, D-galactose and D-glucose. If you have now stumbled across the word "human milk", more on this below.

Oligosaccharides have many positive properties

For this reason, they are often extracted from various foods and used in high doses as prebiotics for babies and adults. Similar to other dietary fibers, 2'-fucosyllactose passes through the stomach and small intestine without being digested and is finally fermented by intestinal bacteria in the large intestine.

Prebiotics are the favorite food of beneficial bacteria

Prebiotics, high-quality dietary fibers, are the favorite food of the beneficial bacteria in our intestines. Prebiotics are substances that are fermented by the microorganisms in the large intestine and promote both the growth and activity of good bacteria in the gut.
The breakdown of prebiotics produces short-chain fatty acids, which are important sources of energy, but also enter the bloodstream and can inhibit inflammation, among other things.
Prebiotics also stimulate the formation of mucus in the intestine. This mucin layer is extremely important because it protects the intestinal cells. In this way, pathogens, harmful substances and allergens can be warded off and inflammation prevented.
In addition, prebiotics regulate the amount of stool and lower the pH value of the intestine, which should always be in a slightly acidic environment.
Natural sources of prebiotics include chicory, black salsify and Jerusalem artichokes.

2'Fucosyllactose is already contained in breast milk

Who particularly needs beneficial substances that build up the gut and immune system? Newborn babies! These beneficial substances are normally provided by breast milk when the baby is breastfed.
Unfortunately, the importance of breastfeeding and the associated health benefits for the newborn are still not sufficiently widespread.
Whether allergies, asthma, neurodermatitis, urticaria, type 2 diabetes or obesity: breastfeeding can prevent all these chronic diseases. Because breast milk is a real superfood! It contains hundreds of important nutrients, vitamins and minerals. It also contains enzymes, hormones, growth factors, defense and protective substances and various complex milk sugars, which promote the baby's health. These milk sugar compounds also include 2′-fucosyllactose,

2′-Fucosyllactose as a helpful prebiotic for your gut

Because we know how important 2′-fucosyllactose is, It is already being added to baby food, particularly in the USA, in order to provide the best possible support for the salutogenesis (Latin: salus = health/well-being, genesis = development) of infants.
But don't worry, you don't have to drink breast milk or artificial baby food to enjoy the health benefits of 2′-fucosyllactose as an adult.
The new preparation "Feed" from Arktis BioPharma Switzerland contains high doses of 2′-fucosyllactose, actively supports your intestines and the health-promoting bacteria living there and also promotes mucus formation (mucin).
No breast milk was used to obtain the 2'-fucosyllactose in "Feed"; instead, it is produced by fermenting bacteria.
For the best possible effect, the "Feed" can initially also be combined with acacia fiber Grow.
If you suffer from lactose intolerance and are a little worried by the name 2'Fucosyllactose, then we also have the all-clear for you. 2'Fucosyllactose is not actually metabolized by lactase, but enters the large intestine unabsorbed as a prebiotic and is metabolized here exclusively by bacteria.
In previous studies, no patient with lactose intolerance has reacted with symptoms to 2'fucosyllactose.

A healthy microbiome is important for a stable immune system

Beneficial bacteria, including lactobacilli and bifidobacteria, are important for maintaining a healthy microbiome. Only a balanced intestinal flora can contribute to regular digestion, adequate nutrient absorption and a stable immune system.

Positive properties of 2′-fucosyllactose

If you are purely interested in the prebiotic effect and want to feed the health-promoting bacteria in your gut, then fiber sources such as acacia fiber may be better suited for this purpose. This is because they can be dosed higher than 2'fucosyllactose. This is limited to 3g per day.
2′-fucosyllactose is particularly beneficial for conditions such as small intestinal bowel overgrowth (SIBO), irritable bowel syndrome and leaky gut. It can help to reduce symptoms and improve quality of life.
In addition, 2′-fucosyllactose can protect against infectious diseases. It prevents pathogens and toxins from attaching to the tissue. Studies have shown that it reduces the risk of infections caused by Helicobacter pylori, Campylobacter jejuni and Salmonella enterica (serotype Typhimurium).
Other studies indicate that 2′-fucosyllactose may contribute to brain development and cognitive function.
Another positive aspect of 2'-fucosyllactose is its positive influence on Akkermansia muciniphila bacteria. These in turn are very important for the development and maintenance of a healthy intestinal mucosa.

Fucose - the unknown simple sugar

The 2'-fucosyllactose consists of 3 different sugars, one of which is fucose.
Not too Unlike fructose, fucose is a rare sugar that is found in higher concentrations in the intestine.
An increased intake of fucose can have a positive effect on health, as this sugar has an important function in the immune response, supports the growth of healthy bacteria in the gut and has an anti-inflammatory effect.

Conclusion

Fucosyllactose is a versatile and effective dietary fiber for intestinal health. By promoting intestinal flora and supporting various intestinal problems, it offers a natural way to improve intestinal health. This underlines the importance of fucosyllactose as a complementary food supplement that can support gut health and well-being in a variety of ways.
