The beginning of a lifelong mission


Andreas Hefel explains how an experience with Professor de Saga, a doctor who used nutrition therapeutically, left a lasting impression on him. Fascinated by the effect of balanced nutrition on type 2 diabetes, he switched from business administration to nutritional medicine and completed training courses in Zurich and Bern.

What has changed in 40 years


The quality of food has deteriorated drastically. Industrial agriculture has significantly reduced not only micronutrients but also macronutrients such as protein compared to the past. At the same time, dietary recommendations have remained largely unchanged for decades, even though food has changed considerably.

The silent rise in chronic diseases


In the past, two percent of the population suffered from type 2 diabetes - today the figure is significantly higher, including seven-year-old children. Andreas attributes this to hidden sugar in ready-made products, fast food and even fruit, among other things. This sugar load leads to insulin resistance and, in the long term, to metabolic diseases.

The health span is shrinking


Official statistics show: In Switzerland, the health span is only 66 years, in Germany it is as low as 57, meaning that people are falling ill earlier and for longer. The result is exploding healthcare costs and a drastic burden on the system.

The trend towards healthy longevity


Longevity, healthy ageing, is a growing topic. This is not about medication, but about lifestyle factors such as diet, exercise and a stable social environment. The aim must be to stay healthy for as long as possible instead of managing illness.

Metabolism as a central lever

Autophagy is a fascinating mechanism in which damaged cells are broken down and recycled. This can help to reduce biological age and give the body a reset. Andreas recommends this metabolic reset on a regular basis - ideally once a year.

Impressive examples from the Kurhaus


Two examples show how effective the method can be: A 94-year-old guest who has been coming to the Kurhaus regularly for 25 years and is still active. And Andreas' mother, who lived to be 100 years old and lived independently until the end. Both had one thing in common: they consistently maintained their metabolism.

Aha moments and real change
