Have you thought about eating less meat or less animal-based foods or even switching to a vegan diet? Basically, I think it's a great idea that you're trying to eat healthier and, together with my guest, I'd like to give you a few tips on what you can look out for in this episode!
Today I have the lovely Katharina Döricht, known as Tasty Katy, as my guest. Katharina is a yoga teacher, holistic Ayurvedic nutrition and health consultant, as well as a gut health consultant and gives cooking classes and workshops on Ayurveda, gut health and a plant-based diet throughout Germany. She shares her knowledge about holistic health, as well as delicious and healthy recipes made from natural ingredients on her blog tastykaty.de and she runs her successful podcast natürlich gesund.
In the interview, you'll find out what mistakes many people make when switching to a plant-based diet, why Katy thinks it's okay to eat animal foods from time to time, and her tips for inviting friends over or communicating with family members are also very helpful! Stay tuned, you can certainly learn a lot for yourself, even if you don't eat vegan!
You can listen to the episode here!
It was a great conversation and Katharina gave great tips on what you can pay attention to, what mistakes you shouldn't make and, above all, she also gave great advice on how you can talk to skeptical family members or how you can avoid any obstacles at invitations.
Specifically, I asked her the following questions, among others:
Personally, I also think that the body simply needs nutrients such as sulphur-containing amino acids, which you can't get from a plant-based diet. Of course, you can also supplement these and you can find a few recommendations for supplements below. However, I think the discussion about whether a purely plant-based diet is actually the best for the environment is not easy to answer with "yes", because soy, for example, is also partly responsible for deforestation, vegetable monocultures are grown and huge amounts of pesticides are used in vegetable cultivation.
I did an interview with Julia Tulipan on this topic a while ago, it was episode 102, which I published in the episode notes I would also like to link to thisinterview, I think it would be a topic that I would like to explore further.
If you know any experts or suitable interview partners, please write to me. I am also interested in your personal opinion on this interview, on the topic of plant-based nutrition and your experiences, please write your thoughts in the comments!

What points do we cover in the interview?
It was a great conversation and Katharina gave great tips on what you can pay attention to, what mistakes you shouldn't make and, above all, she also gave great advice on how you can talk to skeptical family members or how you can avoid any obstacles at invitations.
Specifically, I asked her the following questions, among others:
- Who would you advise to switch to a vegan diet?
- What are the main arguments in favor of a vegan diet?
- What difficulties typically arise when making the switch?
- What are the main mistakes people make when switching to a vegan diet?
- How do you make sure you're not missing any nutrients when you go vegan?
- Do you have any tips on the best way to proceed when you are invited or go to a restaurant?
- How do you deal with critical family members?
Can a vegan diet also lead to deficiencies?
Personally, I also think that the body simply needs nutrients such as sulphur-containing amino acids, which you can't get from a plant-based diet. Of course, you can also supplement these and you can find a few recommendations for supplements below. However, I think the discussion about whether a purely plant-based diet is actually the best for the environment is not easy to answer with "yes", because soy, for example, is also partly responsible for deforestation, vegetable monocultures are grown and huge amounts of pesticides are used in vegetable cultivation.
