In this episode, I talk about how you can bring your gut back into balance with a few basic measures, inspired by my trip to Spitsbergen, where the nature of the Arctic literally hit me right in the heart.
There are laws in nature, even in our own nature, and if you want to be or become healthy, you can only do so if you abide by these laws.More about this in a moment. Stay tuned!
This episode will be a bit more personal, or perhaps philosophical, as I talk about what I learned about myself, life and health on my trip to the Arctic.
Nature in the Arcticis unforgiving. If you make a mistake, you may pay for it with your life. But nature is also generous, it gives without asking for anything in return, it is simply there. It does not judge, it treats everyone equally.
The silencethat reigns inSpitsbergen, also known asSvalbard, is breathtaking. And in this silence, I have come up with a few thoughts and insights that I would like to share with you.
When it comes to the Arctic, the topic of climate change and climate protection is, of course, an integral part. We've heard that there are people who say it's irresponsible to travel to the Arctic because it harms nature.
But whether you fly to Thailand or the Arctic, it doesn't matter as far as CO2 is concerned. Then you can't fly at all. Nowhere. That would be consistent.
If you really want to do something for the climate or the environment, it helpsmost if you do things that have far-reaching consequences. For example, buying seasonally and regionally.
Buying from your local storeinstead of having the goods delivered in 10 installments by Amazon or Zalando and then sending half of them back again.
Use glass instead of plastic.
Use natural cosmetics and hygiene products, rethink your detergent, avoid microfiber products and so on and so forth. Because these productsunfortunatelyvery often contain microplastics, which then end up in the water and therefore also in nature and the environment. ultimately also through food and water in our own bodies.
Wehumansthink that our actions have no consequences. Or at least that the consequences do not affect us.
And we treat food or our thoughts inthe same way. We don't consider the consequences.Or think that it doesn't matter what we eat, as long as we are full. And are then totally surprised when our body no longer works the way we were used to. But instead of drawing the right conclusions and taking responsibility for ourselves, we numb the symptoms with medication or natural remedies. Without getting to the root cause.
In my opinion, the main cause is that we no longer live in harmony with our bodies and with the simplestlaws of nature, which for us humans is a species-appropriate diet and lifestyle.
Ok, if you're still nodding your head and saying: "yes, it all makes so much sense, great explanation Julia!",then here comes the final step, where so many people fail.
And that is: Are you ready to actuallyactually do what you need to do?
Don't fall back into self-deception and the comfort of your comfort zone.
If you really want a change, a transformation, a new attitude to life (and you really deserve that!!!), then you need to change. We deserve to be healthy, happy and energized), then there is no way around breaking out of the comfort zone and going through some turbulence to reach the next level!
Because there, beyond the comfort zone, lies what really makes life worth living. We are here in this world to evolve. When you leave this body one day, what you have experienced and learned will be theonly thing you can take with you. Nothing else!
I never want to hear you complaining about how bad you feel, but I want you to take the steps that will get you out of it and take responsibility for feeling better again.
That doesn't sound as resigned as, for example, "I have an incurable illness and have to take medication all my life. There's just nothing you can do. Tough luck."
But rather: What is one step that will improve my physical situation? What can I do to help my body heal itself?I optimize my habits and my lifestyle and I am convincedand focus my attention on what is currently going well in my life.
So, now I want to get a little more specific and not just talk in flowery terms. Here are a few very concrete steps you can take to feel good in your body again very quickly.
It's really that simple. If you implement these few measures consistently, I can almost guarantee that you will feel better.
As I mentioned earlier in connection with leaving the comfort zone, many people are unwilling to change their diet because they can't imagine giving up their cherished habits.
Or because they tell themselves storiesabout having no time, no money, I've tried it before, etc. etc.
One thought that occurred to me in the overwhelming nature of the Arctic was: we want toprolongour lives with all our might and arealways discovering new medicinesor therapies. But why do we want to extend our lives? To live a few more years of our daily routine and spend a few hours in front of the TV or tablet in the evening?
And the resulting thought was:
I'm actually bored of talking about healthy eating as an isolated factor. I see nutrition as an important cog in a much bigger machine. A healthy diet creates the basis for you to live a pain-free, energetic and creative life - for your own good and for the good of everyone around you. For me, it is the gateway to your personal development.
We live in very turbulent times. It would do our world and you a lot ofgood if you were in the best possible shape, if you were strong, full of energy and in a good mood. Can you imagine what you could achieve, what you could contribute to, if you were in harmony with yourself and your body and had vigor, willpower and insight?
Henry DavidThoreau wrote in Walden: "Most people lead lives of quiet desperation."
I can well understand this saying. We often settle for mediocrity. It's simply good enough. I can't ask for more.
But why not? Dare to reach for the stars and strive for your dream life.
I have often seen that a change in diet and the resulting feeling of "I could tear out trees" has led to people changing their job, moving house, improving or ending their relationship and so on!
Nutrition has the power to be the catalyst for a whole new life because you can finally feel your body again. And therefore also feel your needs again. The result can be a life according to yourstandardsand your ideas.
Finally, I would like to share one last thought that came to me in the Arctic: for climate researchers and scientists, it is an indisputable fact that climate change is a reality.Yes, there have always been temperature fluctuations, but the changes in nature, such as themelting glaciers, have never been as rapid as they are now.
And just as clear as this fact is to the real experts in the field (i.e. the climate scientists), it is just as clear to nutrition experts and scientists thatour degenerate diet is causing us to be sicker as a society than ever before in human history.
But just as no one wants to hear that we are the cause of climate change, we don't want to hear that diseases of civilization would decrease massively if we simply returned to a species-appropriate diet and lifestyle.
Because it would mean that we would have to give up certain comforts. And we are not prepared to do that. No matter how clear the evidence is.
My current solution to this is to consider healthy eating as part of your overall strategy for living a happy, fulfilling and meaningful life. It's never too late to start!

Journey to the Arctic - Journey to myself

In my opinion, the main cause is that we no longer live in harmony with our bodies and with the simplestlaws of nature, which for us humans is a species-appropriate diet and lifestyle.

What are a few concrete steps you can take to get your health back to a good level?
So, now I want to get a little more specific and not just talk in flowery terms. Here are a few very concrete steps you can take to feel good in your body again very quickly.
- Reflect on a species-appropriate lifestyle. We humans need light and dark, day and night, activity and relaxation, company and solitude. Pay attentionalternating rhythms, take time for yourself and your needs and turn off your cell phone and the TV from time to time. Go out into nature, be creative and make something, talk to people who inspire youor do something with your children.
- Take care of your center, your gut. The gut plays a central role in health because it is the place where nutrients are absorbed, where hormones and neurotransmitters are partly produced, it is our second brain, closely linked to our mental health and our ability to heal ourselves.
- You take best care of your gut when you eat real food, things that are not industrially produced. Consumenthe fresh produce section of your supermarket or go directly to the producer, be it at the market or on a farm with a store.
- Drink enough water and think about the quality of the water. Sufficient water specifically means about 30 ml per kilogram of body weight.eweight. This means that someone who weighs 70 kilos, for example, should drink 2.1 liters of water per day.
- Reduce toxins in your everyday life. Use glass containers instead of Plastic. Natural cosmetics or homemade care products. I make my own deodorant, for example.Cleaning products can also pose quite a threat to our gut health with their artificial fragrances and disinfectants, which can also kill off our good gut bacteria.
It's really that simple. If you implement these few measures consistently, I can almost guarantee that you will feel better.
Nutrition as the key to personal development
As I mentioned earlier in connection with leaving the comfort zone, many people are unwilling to change their diet because they can't imagine giving up their cherished habits.

What can we ask of this life?
We live in very turbulent times. It would do our world and you a lot ofgood if you were in the best possible shape, if you were strong, full of energy and in a good mood. What nutrition experts and climate researchers have in common
