DG047: Hypnosis as a therapy that saves time and money and has no side effects

[g_podcast id="10358768"]
In this episode, I talk about:
  • How I came up with the idea of doing hypnosis training
  • What I've learned about hypnosis and why I think it's such a brilliant tool
  • Why it is so important to get to the root of the problem and how hypnosis can help
  • What you should look out for when choosing a hypnotherapist
  • How you can get started with hypnosis yourself right away

I have just completed my training as a hypnotherapist and thought I would share an episode today to give you an insight into this topic.

How did I become interested in hypnosis?

1.5 years ago I started a coaching program with the American Jim Fortin. He is originally a hypnotherapist and a big fan of hypnosis. He encouraged me to try self-hypnosis. I have to admit that I listened to it once, but forgot about it. At some point, Jim said that I was missing out on something so great and important and that I would make much faster progress with self-hypnosis.

I went along with it and realized that self-hypnosis is a great thing. On the one hand, it helps you to relax quickly and on the other hand, it helps you to reprogram unconscious beliefs. It is a way to get in touch with the subconscious. I then had the idea that this could be something really great for my clients - after all, my online course is also based on getting the subconscious on board. And that's how I came across Mike Schwarz, who I also interviewed for my podcast(episode DG035: Does hypnosis mean loss of control?).

At the end of the interview, he asked me if I would like to do hypnosis training. Mike is a hypnosis trainer and still had a place available on his course. I then slept on it for a night or two and spontaneously signed up.

In this episode, I would like to tell you what hypnosis is, how it can work and what it is for and how you could benefit from hypnosis yourself.

Why you don't need to be afraid of hypnosis

It's incredibly important that you don't have any preconceptions, fears or concerns when you go into hypnosis. The concerns are quite varied, I hear that again and again. Many people are afraid that they will lose control or be manipulated. I can reassure you about that! Our subconscious knows what it can expect of us and things that are unreasonable will not come to light. There is a Self-protection in our subconscious - you can't be ordered to do things that go against your morals or principles. You've probably seen a show hypnosis where someone does ridiculous things. The show hypnotist chooses people who are willing to go along with every hoax. If your subconscious doesn't want something, then it won't be done. It's not like you're asleep or out of it either. You are aware of everything and can come out of hypnosis on your own. It is not a loss of control, but rather regaining control over your life, as 90-95% of our lives are determined by the subconscious.

You choose to be in this relaxed state yourself. Hypnosis is always part self-hypnosis - it cannot happen against your will! It even needs your cooperation.

What does hypnosis actually do? And what does hypnosis have to do with your subconscious?

The aim of hypnosis is to bring your heart and brain back into balance. When everything is back in balance, we strengthen our immune system, remove negative unconscious patterns and activate our self-healing powers!

However, it is important that if you have a physical problem, you go to the doctor first and get it checked out before you go into a hypnosis session.

Let's talk briefly about the conscious and subconscious mind: The conscious mind is our logical thinking, our short-term memory. The subconscious is where our feelings and habits reside - it is our long-term memory.

Hypnosis is the process of moving from the conscious to the subconscious, so to speak. Now there is a gatekeeper at the boundary between the conscious and unconscious called the 'critical factor'. Hypnosis is the bypassing of the critical factor and the permission to myself to let this factor move to the side. So hypnosis just opens you up to a new way of thinking and allows us to make contact with the subconscious.

How your subconscious mind works

An example from our training:

A boy had a guinea pig that died. The father said to the boy: You just should have taken better care of it.

The child forgot about it and years later he took the dog for a walk and the dog got loose and got under a car. Nobody blamed the boy. The next event was that his grandmother died and yet his subconscious made a certain connection and felt guilty. He thought that animals and people were dying all around me.

Later, the boy took a math exam and failed. The teacher said you should have paid more attention. And bang, his subconscious linked it to the guinea pig incident and so he developed test anxiety. Although guinea pigs have nothing to do with math exams, the subconscious mind linked these things in such a way that he panicked about exams from then on.

You could work on it for years, you would never come up with this guinea pig incident. And that is the great added value that hypnosis can bring. We can access events that are stored in our subconscious. It can happen that in a single session an exam anxiety has disappeared.

Hypnosis helps to get to the root of the problem

Basically, hypnosis is not about talking yourself into positive things, but about getting to the root of the problem. This is called 'regressive work' or 'cause-oriented work'.

Imagine you have a garden full of weeds. It is of relative use to you It doesn't help much if you only cut off the top of the weed - you have to dig up the root and remove the plant. And it's the same with problems.

In hypnosis, you can evoke memories from your subconscious of the first time you felt a certain emotion. We went so far back when practicing in the course that things from birth or from the womb sometimes appeared!

A promising treatment for addictions and fears of all kinds

What is hypnosis suitable for? The classic treatment is smoking cessation or other addictions. Fears, stuttering, obesity, depression and so much more!

Bowel problems are also very well suited to being supported with hypnosis.

If you have a problem that you have not been able to solve so far, even though you have tried many things - what do you have to lose by tackling something new? Hypnosis really is a very promising tool.

When looking for a hypnotherapist, make sure that he or she works 'regressively' and that you like him or her! The therapist should take time for a preliminary talk with you. I did the OMNI training, I can definitely recommend omifinder.net if you are looking for someone near you.

Pay attention to your feelings too! If you're not feeling well, you can stop or cancel at any time.
