DG037: How communication and spiritual work go together - Interview with Birgit Gatter

[g_podcast id="9485231"]

Topics in the interview are:
  • Why we cannot NOT communicate
  • What role our subconscious plays
  • How intestinal problems can be related to emotions, for example
  • What is meant by spiritual healing
  • And: why combining spiritual healing with communication makes so much sense

In today's episode, I talk to Birgit Gatter. Birgit originally studied business administration. She is a successful businesswoman who spent 10 years building and running her own telemarketing company with up to 25 employees. She has also built up a coaching business, trained in NLP, hypnosis and wingwave, for example, and has also written a book entitled "Kommunikation à la carte "*. A few years ago, she added a new aspect, namely spiritual cleansing or spiritual healing.

I know that the topic of spirituality can meet with resistance, but that's precisely why it's great that Birgit has a background in business administration and extensive experience in business, because it shows us that these areas can be combined after all.

We had a few small internet problems during our conversation, don't let that put you off, I think it turned out to be a very inspiring conversation.

What is communication and why should we pay attention to our words?

Welcome Birgit!
You come from the field of communication. What does communication mean to you?

Birgit: Communication is the connection between people. For me, it's all about appreciative communication. Communication can connect, but it can also be very divisive. Communication with myself is also very important. I often find that people have language patterns that are almost self-destructive. You should really pay attention to that.

Can you give me an example?

Birgit: When someone who is around 45-50 says 'Now the aches and pains are starting, but that's old age.'
Doesn't sound bad at first - but the message gets into the subconscious 'I can get sick now, because it's because of my age.'
Or statements like 'I HAVE to do this and that'. If I have to do something, it's no longer my free will and it sounds difficult and unpleasant. I always say 'I WANT to work', or 'I like going to work'. And if someone says that they HAVE to, the work already has a certain heaviness to it.

And if someone really doesn't like going to work, can you still do something about it with the way you speak?

Birgit: You could say 'I'm not enjoying my work at the moment'. Then it's temporary. That shows you that you can change something and it gives you more power over your life.

How can you apply this to the topic of health?

Could you also apply this to the topic of health? I notice that a lot of people keep telling others how they feel and then they tell the next person and the next person and the next person. And that is also a bit of a reinforcement of the negative status quo.

Birgit: That is a topic where I clearly say that you should be careful how often you tell something that is not positive for you. If I repeat it over and over again, it becomes ingrained in my subconscious.

The problem is that people ask you that very often. Almost everyone asks how you're doing. What would you advise people to say in response? Do you tell the truth when If I have the feeling that it's a cliché, I'm not going to start rolling up my life to find out why I'm not doing well at the moment.

Birgit: If I have the feeling that it's a cliché, I'm not going to start rolling up my life to find out why I'm not doing well at the moment. If it's someone I know well and I know they're asking out of interest, I can say 'I'm a bit off track at the moment - this and that is happening.'

How can we influence unconscious patterns?

You spoke earlier about the subconscious. How can we access it, so to speak? How can we influence it?

Birgit: There are certain techniques. It's best to sit down quietly, both legs on the floor, close your eyes and start to perceive your surroundings. And then focus on this one particular topic - the answers will come. You have to be able to tell when your head is speaking and when your heart is speaking.

It's definitely a matter of practice - learning to distinguish between these 'voices'. I think that's often the reason why people change their diet and only manage to do it for 2-3 weeks before that old pattern comes back. That's why we work a lot with the subconscious and self-hypnosis on the Gut Happiness course. If we only control it through our heads, it is short-lived. You can achieve a lot with discipline, but discipline is very short-lived. Then you fall back into the old patterns and for many, comfort is associated with food. How do you do this in coaching? How do you get to the bottom of old habits?

Birgit: In this area, I work very much in the spiritual realm, so it's relatively easy for me. I can sense the other person's blockages and can release them. If someone doesn't have this access, I go into mental coaching.

What kind of problems can these be? What do you specialize in?

Birgit: It can really be almost anything. The simplest example is giving up smoking. But people also come to me who are in a very bad emotional state, who are very desperate and have already tried many things. And many people come to me who outwardly have a happy life, but who themselves have the feeling that they are just functioning. There is no joy in life and no drive anymore.

And then you find the reason why they no longer have these emotions?

Birgit: Yes. Depending on how much the client gets involved.

What is the outcome for your clients?

Birgit: They are doing very well. A friend recently called me and was diagnosed with burnout/depression. I told her to come over for a moment, I didn't have much time. I then only did a small part of a healing session and she left laughing. I later received feedback that she had slept for 5 hours at a time for the first time in several weeks.

So is it sustainable? She will be able to help herself better in the future?

Birgit: Exactly. So the healing itself lasts for 30 days. I tell the client what to do during the 30 days to maintain the healing.

How is the gut connected to the psyche?

Do you see a connection between the psychological and mental side and the gut?

Birgit: Yes, very strongly. Emotions often get stuck in the gut!

So you can have a positive effect on the body by releasing emotions, so to speak?

Birgit: Yes, and we always say that you should also do something for the gut.

It's always very important to me that you approach this from many different angles. I very often see that people only do one thing. They go to a therapist and have their gut treated, but don't change their diet or lifestyle, or and vice versa. Since I've been approaching this consistently and holistically from as many different angles as possible, I've noticed that the successes are quicker and more sustainable. Many people simply change their diet, but if the stress is still exactly the same or the emotions are suppressed, I can change my diet however I want. I still won't have the resounding success. Do you see it the same way?

Birgit: Exactly. The body shows us when something is wrong. Most complaints start on a mental level and only then manifest themselves physically. That's why it's important to give the body the opportunity to really recover fully and it needs professional guidance.

How Birgit combines communication and spiritual healing

You wrote to me that you mainly look after people who are just 'functioning', or who have the feeling that they are just functioning and no longer feel this joie de vivre and energy. How did you come up with that idea? You are originally a business economist. How did that develop?

Birgit: I have a very atypical degree because I already preferred the 'soft' subjects during my studies. Back then, I specialized in HR and advertising. HR is a very strong subject, and we worked in a telemarketing company for over 10 years. And that's where the training sessions came about when customers asked me how I train my employees and who trains them. This led to coaching and I then realized that I can give people the most through 1:1 collaboration.

In 2013, I went to a spiritual healing session myself and the ladies said to me 'You are a healer'. At first I resisted, but at some point I accepted that I was. And since then I feel that I have arrived in my climate. And I like to combine it with communication, because for me it all belongs together. And for people to have this satisfaction and quality of life, they need the different approaches and that's why I combine them.

I have the feeling that some people react defensively to the word 'spiritual' and that it even scares some people. Do you experience that too?

Birgit: If I have the feeling with someone that it would really do them good and help them, I just say it. I had a funny case a few months ago - I was talking to a gentleman and realized that his heart was like a lump inside him and I sensed that he was unhappy. I said to him that I would recommend a spiritual cleansing and that I knew he wouldn't be able to do anything with it. He confirmed that it didn't suit him. 3 weeks later the phone rang and he asked me when we could do the cleanse. I experience this all the time.

What is spiritual healing anyway?

Can you briefly explain what a spiritual cleansing is?

Birgit: We do it in a bright room where there is also a cross. We do it in the Christian faith.

The person being healed doesn't have to be a believer - it's enough that we believe in God. We are 'switched on'. This means that the channel upwards is open. We then perceive certain things and we can remove them. There is then a lot of action in itself. The client has their eyes closed the whole time and they still see colors and light, it becomes brighter for them and they feel relief. But it depends on how much the client can let go.

Can that be dangerous? Is that a fear that people have?

Birgit: Of course, everything that I can't see seems scary. The People don't know what to do with it. Since we work in the Christian faith, it cannot be dangerous. It is important to see how the healer works. Whether he works in the Christian faith, for example.

It was important to me that we can imagine that something like this exists. I think it's always important in a podcast to be able to suggest as many things as possible. The listeners can take what suits them. It's nice to know how many options there are. Especially if you're stuck.

Birgit: Exactly, I think there's something different for everyone and people will do what's right for them.

What's it like if someone hears this and wants advice from you? Do they have to come and see you in person? How does this collaboration work?

Birgit: The easiest way is via the homepage, there is a personal consultation, which is free of charge. Healing is also possible remotely. Here is the link to the free consultation: https://www.birgitgatter.com/dein-persoenliches-beratungsgesprae
That's good to know, as the podcast can be listened to worldwide.

Birgit: We have had very good experiences with remote healing.

Would you like to finish by saying who should feel particularly addressed? What are the typical signs that it might be time to talk to you?

Birgit: People who feel stuck in life. Who get up in the morning and realize they have no joy in getting up, no energy for the day. People who have been walking around feeling sad for a long time. Life is so meaningful! There's no point in enduring something for a long time that isn't necessary.

I find that super exciting! And we live in a time where there is more and more room for such topics, especially in connection with business. I think it's great how your path has gone. One of my driving forces is that we can live up to our potential and not be held back by our ailments and that we don't have to say at the end of life 'If I had been healthy, if I had had energy,....' The two of us are very much on the same page.

Birgit: Definitely! And to have faith in life.

Thank you so much, dear Birgit!!! I will definitely link everything under the episode notes. And you wanted to mention something about your talk!

Birgit: Exactly, on May 4th I'll be at Woman and Work in Frankfurt. It's a free trade fair and I'll be giving a talk on quick-wittedness with charm.
