In this podcast episode, I talk about, among other things
This episode is all about 'Gut Happiness'.
My podcast is called Gut Happiness and of course there's a story about how I came up with the name.
There's a system (the Gut Happiness Formula) that forms the basis of our online Gut Happiness course and I'd like to tell you a bit about it today.
Gut happiness has a double meaning for me.
On the one hand, it means that a healthy gut leads to a happy life, but it also means that if you take care of your gut, you will have a happy gut.
Why is happiness so important to me? I think when we are here on earth, we have a reason and a purpose for being here and we want to live our lives the way we intended. In order for us to live our lives as we intended, we need a body that is capable of allowing us to do that.
My coach explained this to us with a picture of a rental car.
When we arrive in this world, it's a bit like going on vacation. We arrive at the airport and pick up our rental car. Then we drive around in this rental car during our vacation, drive to places of interest and the main thing about this vacation is not how good our car is, but where it takes us and when we fly back at the end of the vacation, we arrive at the airport, give the car back and fly home.
It's similar with our body.
We arrive in this world, we get our body and this body leads us through life. We sometimes have a tendency to attach too little importance to the body on the one hand and too much importance on the other.
It's not so important whether it's a souped-up Ferrari or a Fiat Cinquecento. The important thing is that it is reliable and takes us where we want to go. The difference between a body and a rental car is that you can get another car - that's not possible with our body.
That's also how I see the topic of health/intestinal health.
It's not for the sake of health, but so that our body is able to enable us to live the life we want. I'm sure we can't lead a happy life if we're constantly ill - that sounds a bit extreme.
Of course, someone may have an accident or lose an arm - you can't say that the person can never be happy again, on the contrary.
We have to accept certain things as a basic requirement. But if we live our lives in a way that harms our body, I do believe that the body is slowing us down. Ultimately, it's not the body that's holding us back, it's us who are sabotaging the body through our lifestyle.
The body can heal itself and put things right if we let it (a metabolism that is capable of repairing it). It's in our hands, few people realize that.
How can the body help us? hold back?
For example, by being in pain and needing a walking aid and therefore not being able to do certain things. A woman recently told me that she has extreme back pain and always has to think about when to do something because she can't stand or sit for too long.
This means that she has to plan certain things very carefully or can't do certain activities at all.
This is how our body holds us back from doing things that would actually be possible. That's why I think it's important that we look at nutrition and the gut, because it's the basis for everything.
The gut is our root, our center. It is the place where our nutrients are absorbed, where messenger substances and hormones are produced, where detoxification takes place.
Diet has a direct influence on the functioning of the gut. If we eat foods that trigger inflammation or that cost us a lot of nutrients (e.g. sugar), it has a direct impact on gut function. And if the gut no longer functions properly and the whole system is out of balance, the body can no longer repair certain things.
The immune system may overreact (allergies may develop), our mood may be affected, and so on and so forth.
Many symptoms are directly linked to our gut. It is said that 80% of our health lies in the gut. For this reason, we have developed this
The formula consists of several steps, as you can see in the picture here, and I will now explain these 5 steps to you.

Step 1 is to set your goals and get your subconscious on board. If you know where you ultimately want to go and get your subconscious on board, then you have a solid foundation to have enough motivation to change your habits. For many people, a gut cleanse is about improving health and changing habits.
Step 2 is the gut cleanse. This means a certain amount of detoxification, purification, a change in diet and a switch to a gut-friendly diet.
Step 3 is lifestyle and attitude to life. This is totally forgotten in many dietary changes. It deals with topics such as: stress, how to deal with setbacks, how to deal with self-sabotage, how to deal with headwinds from the environment, daily planning, etc.
Step 4 is the individually adapted and long-term diet. Not everyone needs the same diet. It is important to find out what is important for you and your metabolism.
Step 5 is to live your life according to your ideas. It is important to maintain your habits and keep working on your personal development.
Health is something that you can approach from many angles and where many components come into play. It is also important to reduce stress, because stress also has an impact on our health.
I hope you remember the picture of the rental car at the beginning. The goal of a healthy diet and gut cleanse is to keep that car running smoothly, so that your body doesn't hold you back and slow you down.
Many people only approach a change in diet or bowel cleansing with discipline. And if you now understand that a change of habit is necessary for this, you will understand why it doesn't work with discipline alone. I would recommend that you think about it:
What else do I want to achieve? What are my goals?
And see where your body is holding you back. Am I extremely tired in the morning and can't get going? Do I fall asleep on the couch in the evening and can't enjoy my free time at all?
If you have mood swings or are in a bad mood, you approach things very differently.
The better you feel and the more powerful you feel in your body, the more likely you are to tackle difficult goals.
There will always be setbacks, but if you are able to react to them quickly, you will be better able to cope with life. That alone is the reason why I recommend that you eat healthily. So that you feel good in your body every day and can achieve your goals in life!
Use your time wisely, make time for what is important and I highly recommend that you take care of your health.

In this podcast episode, I talk about, among other things
- Why you can't be happy if you're not healthy
- Why the gut is at the base of everything
- What the gut happiness formula actually is
- Why discipline and willpower are not the right starting point for changing habits
- And: how you can take action to change your life
