[g_podcast id="8295635"]

Today I have a very special interview for you, which I conducted with naturopath Cécile Künzli-Zangger.

This interview is intended to encourage and inspire you. Cécile is a participant in my online course Darmglück and thanks to the change in diet I recommended to her there, she got rid of years of stomach pain in a very short time and also improved her skin immensely.

That's why I asked her to take us on her journey and tell us how she experienced the change in diet. Because I know that true life stories like this are very inspiring and can show you what's possible.

Enjoy the interview!

Topics in the interview are

:
  • Why did Cécile sign up for the Darmglück course in the first place
  • How she experienced the start of the change in diet
  • What improvements she experienced as a result of the course
  • What she does differently now that the course is over
  • How she benefited from the group of other participants in the course
  • Expert interviews as an additional benefit

Cécile is originally a chef, but left her stressful job in the hospitality industry to train as a naturopath for TCM, acupuncture and Tuina. She has experienced first-hand what stress can do to your health and naturally incorporates her experience in nutrition into the consultations in her practice.

Cécile tells us how she regained her sense of well-being thanks to her change in diet and what she has learned for the future. She completed our Darmglück course and tells us in this interview how she improved her skin immensely and got rid of her stomach pain completely thanks to the course.

Julia: Today we want to talk about how you changed your diet and your experience on the DARMGLÜCK course. First of all, I would like to know why you signed up for the course in the first place. How did you feel before you signed up?
Cécile: I first came into contact with this course a year ago and thought to myself 'Wow, I have to do this!" but had then put it off. One thing was the financial aspect and the other was that nutrition is something you don't give in to so easily. But then I decided to say 'Ok, I'm going to do it now', because being sick forever and having stomach ache - it' s really worth the investment. And why did I do it? I have very dry and flaky skin, sometimes severe dandruff, but also a lot of stomach problems, like bloating and abdominal pain. The skin and stomach problems are the two main reasons why I decided to do it.

Julia: How did the changeover go for you? During the course, we talked about a few foods that you might have to leave out and where you should change certain habits. How did you find the start of the course?
Cécile: It was all very nice! Firstly, I had the entire course overview, i.e. I knew what was coming up. But what I found even better was that I couldn't open it all up. Everything really came in chunks, which was really easy to implement.
Julia: So even though you are working and family, did you have the feeling that you could make it happen?
Cécile: It went very well because it was very simple instructions. You also gave me recipe ideas. I'm a cook myself, but I was so grateful to receive this input. It really, really helped me!

Julia: That's great, I'm glad! What was the effect of the change? How are you feeling today? What has changed?
Cécile: The effect afterwards is enormous! For the first two weeks, I put a little bit of milk in my coffee and nothing changed. The bloating, the pain - it was all there. Then we had the live call where you told me to leave it out, which I did. Then it worked!

There were really big changes. Within a week, the bloating was completely gone, the stomach pain was 50% better and now that the course has been over for 2 weeks, my skin has improved significantly! The dandruff on my scalp and the dry feeling are really gone. Like the stomach pains - completely gone. I still have flatulence from time to time because I eat a piece of cheese now and again, but otherwise I've cut out milk completely. Wheat products too, there are really many good alternatives. I'm really impressed!

Julia: How surprised were you that the effect was so quick?
Cécile: I would actually know better because I work with it myself. But it's a habit, I do something good for myself and it's usually these things that we always do that cause the problems. That was really the milk for me. That was an AHA experience and I can really tell my people in counseling: leave it out for such and such reasons.

Julia: I think even if you've experienced it yourself, you can pass it on in a different way, can't you?
Cécile: Exactly!

Being aware of the consequences

Julia: And what was also interesting was when you just said that you only take a small sip of milk. That wasn't much, but I think that's the 'mistake' that a lot of people make. They think 'I'll just have a little, then it can't hurt me'.
Cécile: That's always the input and that was what you explained to me so well - the input keeps coming and even if it's just a little bit. It's just too much.

Julia: So if the body forms an inflammation to a certain food, it doesn't matter how much of it you take. It can be just a sip or just a bite. A lot of people say 'I don't eat wheat, but every now and then I eat a piece of bread'. But if the body turns it into an inflammation, even that piece of bread is too much.
Cécile: Absolutely! I also liked the gradual introduction of certain foods. I know that I don't tolerate wheat very well, but I can still have a piece of Sunday plait. Then I just know that I'll have flatulence afterwards. I can consciously avoid it, or I can enjoy it very consciously - I just have problems afterwards. Then I also feel later: it's not good for me. I can really decide - do I want it or don't I want it. You don't feel that at all before. You eat stuff and don't know where it's coming from. comes.

Julia: The idea of Darmglück is actually that you leave out complete things where you know from experience that many people react to them. But then you should be able to try it out again and if you then realize that it triggers skin problems again (as in your case now), then it makes no sense to take it up again. But if you realize 'Okay, my body can tolerate or deal with a little of this from time to time', then you can take it up again.
Cécile: I've then made it a point to leave wheat out completely until further notice. I make my own Sunday plaited bread and use spelt flour. That's not a problem. There are always alternatives, you point that out so well.

How the right mindset helps.

Julia: So that helped you too, that I was able to give input? Many people think when they see things like 'Oh, then I won't be able to eat anything' or 'Then I won't be able to do anything'. And then simply showing them that you can replace or leave out things that you don't even miss. I think a lot of blockages are in your head.
Cécile: Absolutely! I'm convinced of that. What I also liked so much was when you said that we were going to leave out five things and you then gave me a nice shopping list with so many countless foods on it that I could still eat. I thought that was so nice. There is no forbidden list: You can eat all of this!

Julia: That's something that's so important to me on the course. Not just with food, but generally that you always look at what is good and what is possible. We did a gratitude exercise so that you really always look at what's going well and don't focus on what you're not allowed to do or what's not going well.
Cécile: To then also see that a lot of things are actually going really well for us. I thought that was really nice too. I avoided the live calls a bit and then always looked them up to see what topics or problems the other participants had. That also helped me move forward.

The win-win of group dynamics

Julia: That's the interesting thing about the groups. At first you think 'I have a question and the others probably don't care'. Until you realize that if you ask something, someone else has the same question, or someone asks something that also concerns you. It's often the case that the personal questions we have aren't really personal at all, but that others are struggling with exactly the same issue.
Cécile: What I also found really nice in the course were the different inputs. On the one hand it's the food, but also, for example,'How can I deal with stress? What else is going on around me? We very often forget that, it also hits us in the gut! I found the various exercises, or the interviews you did with other experts, very enriching!

The success, the conscious diet.

Julia: Very nice, I'm really pleased about that! What do you think you will take away for the future? What have you gained from the course in the long term?
Cécile: Definitely a lot more health, especially in my stomach! I will I would certainly want to take with me. It takes a bit of discipline, but I know what the problem causes are. I've now written it into my agenda that there will be a big Sunday breakfast once a month, where I won't pay attention to it, but I know the consequences afterwards. I now know what causes the problems and I can be consistent or not. So far, I'm on the right track. I've already told a lot of people about the course because I'm really happy - otherwise I wouldn't be doing it.

Julia: What would you recommend to someone who is unsure whether they should take part or is perhaps even a little scared of the changeover? What would you advise someone like that?
Cécile: I would really recommend it from the bottom of my heart and say: 'What's more important? The uncertainty or your health? Very often, health is more important. I was so well supported on the course and you also gave me the opportunity to send you my questions by email. I felt very well looked after all round. I simply say: 'Try it! It doesn't get worse, it can only get better.'

Julia: Thank you so much for sharing your experience! I think it's important for everyone to feel into it a little bit, 'Is it the right thing? But I think if I were to summarize the conversation, I would say that although it is a change, it is doable for everyone, even for people who don't have that much time. You don't have to have a lot of patience, the positive results come relatively quickly.
Cécile: Exactly and as I said, I'm self-employed, I have a small child. And it was really doable.

Julia: Thank you very much, Cecile, for the interview. I hope that lots of people will listen to it and take the courage to take responsibility for their own health.
Cécile: I hope so too. Thank you very much, Julia!

So that was the interview with Cécile. Isn't it great what she has achieved?

I'm particularly pleased that people from the health professions are always taking part in the Darmglück course! Cécile is a naturopath, I've also had participants who offer physiotherapy, TCM nutritional advice, yoga teachers and so on.

That shows me that it's not knowledge alone that makes the difference, but how you put it into practice. And the special thing about this course is that although we approach the changes through nutrition, other areas such as attitude and lifestyle are just as important for a sustainable transformation. And that's why these are also an important part of the course.
