In this episode, I talk to one of our clients, Johanna, who was able to significantly improve her Crohn's disease symptoms and how she did it:
Topics in the interview are:
I am very grateful that Johanna talks so openly in the interview about how she used to feel, when she sometimes had to run to the toilet 20 times a day and was tired, listless and also a little desperate.
Johanna told me that colon cleansing and changing her diet has literally changed her life and that's why I really wanted to share this interview with you, to encourage you and show you how powerful nutrition is and how important gut health is for quality of life.
Johanna told me after this interview why she didn't want to take any medication from the start when it was clear that she had Crohn's disease. The medication you are given suppresses the immune system, and for Johanna this would have meant that she would no longer have been able to do her job as a riding instructor. The draughts outside or the dust that is stirred up in the stables would have been too dangerous for her.
And this shows once again that a sick body can prevent us from living our lives the way we want to. But Johanna had the courage to take responsibility for her health instead of just swallowing pills - and this courage has now paid off.
With this podcast, I would like to encourage you to support your body in healing itself with the help of nutrition, which is the basis for our metabolism.
I'm not saying that nutrition solves everything - but you can't get well without it.
Johanna was particularly amazed at how quickly her symptoms improved after having problems for years.
Johanna is 35 years old and comes from Lower Austria, near Vienna. She was diagnosed with Crohn's disease at the age of 14. This was followed by a long medical history, but she decided from the outset not to take any medication. She has always been looking for solutions to make her life as comfortable and good as possible with the disease.
Johanna is a fitness trainer and riding instructor and found Julia and Roman through recommendations.
Crohn's disease is a chronic inflammation of the intestines with permanent diarrhea. The Depending on what food she ate and how weak her immune system was, she had repeated episodes lasting from 3-4 days to a week. She was completely incapacitated with pain, stomach and abdominal cramps and sometimes she couldn't eat at all. She would just lie in bed and wait for it to stop.
No matter where Johanna went, she always looked for a toilet first. She could only sleep for two to three hours at night. As a result, she was constantly tired and weak. Her work as a riding instructor was exhausting and at some point the weakness of her body also affected her psyche.
Johanna then carried out a microbiome analysis with Roman and changed her diet as a result. She hadn't eaten any wheat products before and had also cut out most grains.
When Roman told her that the change would now go in a different direction, it was a challenge at first. She asked herself: What else can I eat? As she described herself as a sugar junkie and loved cakes, chocolate and the like, giving up sugar seemed to be the most difficult thing for her.
She was very steadfast for the first ten days and everything worked really well. Then she had a relapse and ate three pieces of cake at once. However, she immediately regretted this and was not well the same day and the next day. She hasn't eaten any sugar since then.
She was sleeping properly again on the second day of the changeover and without carbohydrates, having previously only been able to sleep for a few hours each night. That alone was a great motivation for her to continue.
Of course, it took some time to find out what she was allowed to eat and what not. In the evenings, she read more and more on the subject and researched recipes. The nutrition plan from Foodpunk, which she received as part of the microbiome analysis, made it much easier for her. Johanna always wrote down the day before what she wanted to eat the next day and which foods she needed. So she drew up a daily plan for the next day.
She wasn't hungry at all at first. Only when she started taking prebiotics and probiotics from Arktis BioPharma (recommended by Roman) did she get really hungry. She then simply ate much larger quantities of the foods on her list. She didn't put on any weight as a result and after a few days it regulated itself again.
Her body simply needed it at the time and it's also important to listen to the body's signals. You should also just trust the system, it all makes sense.
Thanks to the initial, rapid improvements, Johanna always had the motivation to keep going.
You can't compare her current energy level with what it was before. She says that she feels really good now!
She used to always have a big bloated belly and sometimes pain after eating. That's completely gone now. She no longer feels bloated and doesn't feel tired. The food finally gives her the energy she needs and doesn't make her feel tired. And that's the whole point of food. Food should give you energy, not take it away.
Johanna's Crohn's disease symptoms have also improved a lot. The frequency of toilet visits has been drastically reduced. She used to have to go to the toilet about 20 times a day, now she goes two to three times. Her stools are firmer and she no longer has diarrhea. Only rarely It happens again in stressful situations. But here too, with the help of the tips from the Darmglück course, she is practising getting out of such situations more easily so that it doesn't happen again.
The progress she has made is immense, considering that she only started the changeover two months ago. Of course, it's not perfect yet, so it will take time and a little patience.
Johanna is very happy with her new attitude to life because she didn't expect things to improve so quickly. She has been carrying her illness around with her for many years and has often eaten the wrong foods or consumed things that are not good for her. So it takes time for the body to adapt.
Many people shy away from changing their diet because they think it will take forever to see results. But Johanna's example is not uncommon, many customers report that the first improvements come very quickly.
If you feed the body properly, give it food that the system is made for, then rapid regeneration is also possible.
Johanna has now familiarized herself so well with many recipes that she can eat many good things and she no longer misses sugar at all. Because she feels much better today, she doesn't have the feeling that she's missing out on anything. On the contrary, she has gained something. Namely a much higher quality of life.
Johanna also took part in the Gut Happiness course in addition to the microbiome analysis. The explanations of how the gut works, numerous recipes, exercises, tips on how to avoid sugar cravings, food lists describing what to eat and what to leave out, etc. helped her a lot.
She simply leaves out the foods she doesn't like. In the first week, Johanna often had doubts, but she says that the fact that Julia and Roman were easy to reach and that she could always ask questions made it easier for her.
Of course, it takes some time to get used to it, especially at the beginning, and you don't know exactly what you can and can't cook.
Johanna then started cooking ahead and making quick, simple dishes. Then, in addition to her full-time job as a riding instructor, it was no longer a problem to stick to the guidelines.
It takes some practice and organization, but then it works in a relatively short time. By gaining energy, you also become more efficient and active, which gives you more time.
Johanna also describes how her thoughts are more focused and she feels more alert. It's as if a veil has been taken away from her.
Johanna would definitely recommend anyone with major or minor complaints to try the Gut Happiness course.
Because health is the greatest good we have. It is absolutely worth investing in your health. And it's actually easy, you cook it anyway, whether you cook unhealthy or healthy things.
Just try it out, feel it for yourself, it's very worthwhile.
It's 6 weeks that you have to stick with it, which is nothing compared to the rest of your life! And certainly not when you know that you'll feel better afterwards.
I really hope that this interview has eased your fears about changing your diet and encouraged you to take care of your health. Your body will thank you with more energy, a clear head, better sleep, more beautiful skin - depending on where the weak point in the body.
My mission with this podcast is to encourage my listeners and to convey how important the gut, our center, is for us and our well-being.
Not just so that you are healthy. But so that you can live your life the way you want to.
The program that Johanna did with us is the Darmglück online course, a six-week program that supports you in changing your diet and cleansing your gut.
With recipes and nutrition plans, with background information about the gut and with exercises and suggestions for lifestyle and attitude. If this sounds like something you might like to do, sign up for our waiting list and you will be notified as soon as it starts again.
In addition to the course, Johanna also did a microbiome analysis, which shows you the composition of bacteria in your gut, whether you have too few of the good bacteria or too many of the so-called bad ones, whether the pH value, the environment in the gut is right, what the situation is with inflammation, parasites or fungi and whether there is any suspicion of a leaky gut. Feel free to get in touch with us if you would like to do such an analysis.
Next week, as always on Tuesdays, there will be the next Darmglück episode, I look forward to seeing you again. See you then!
Now I recommend that you subscribe to the podcast so that you don't miss an episode, and if you like what you hear, I'd really appreciate a review on iTunes or Apple Podcast. Because these reviews also help other people find the podcast so we can spread the knowledge about gut and health more.
