DG009: The reasons why your health is not improving

[g_podcast id="7137465"]

In this episode, I talk about the big obstacles you don't recognize that are preventing your health success. Are you one of those people who say, but I live so healthy, I've done so much, but I'm still not getting better? Or not yet as well as I would like? Then read on now!

Points that could be the reason why you are not making progress with your health.

There are many people who do not know why their health is not improving, even though they think they are eating very healthily and doing a lot for their health.

The reasons or obstacles for not making progress are complex. Here are a few common obstacles:

1

. You're not doing it for the right reason

It may be that you don't have the right motivation in the first place, or you're not doing it for the right reasons. Maybe you're taking care of your health because the doctor said so, because you want to do your husband a favor, because you want to impress friends, etc. But these are reasons that are externally motivated.

Ask yourself what health has to do with you. Why it's important to you. What you would do differently if you were already healthy.

2

. You approach it too hesitantly

"You still have to enjoy your life" is something I often hear. Yes, that's true. But you can also enjoy life if you eat healthily and live healthily. If you have persistent health problems that you have not yet been able to improve, then you may simply be making too many exceptions. My experience is: it's better to be 100% strict at the beginning (rule of thumb: for 4 weeks) and only then loosen up again.

3

. You give up too quickly or change the "method

"
In natural medicine, it is said that as long as you have a problem in years, it will take months for it to go away. I don't know if that's true. But it is true: we often expect super quick results.

But a little patience is usually required when it comes to health.

Impatience is a big problem nowadays, we want everything immediately and in the simplest possible way. But remember: nature is patient. Animals and plants are not impatient. The tree doesn't scream, it wants to grow faster. So take nature as your role model and be patient with yourself.

4

. You don't have enough or the wrong knowledge

Nutrition can be a confusing field, there are too many gurus and everyone tells you something different. There is a lot of half-knowledge or false knowledge in circulation.

That's why I advise you to find someone who knows about nutrition and health and whom you can trust. But also read relevant books yourself so that you can decide who you trust.

5

. You are neglecting the big picture and only making selective changes

Health is a holistic matter. If you don't adapt your life as a whole, it won't work. Simply changing your diet and not adapting your lifestyle will not lead to success. And many people who have successfully tried to improve their health have not even gone down the path of nutrition, but have tried therapies, supplements and medication.

It won't work without nutrition. Just swallowing any remedy, whether herbal or medicinal, won't get you there if you don't also take diet and lifestyle into account.

6

. You have no allies or support

Don't underestimate this point! Look for people you can talk to who can support you. support you and accompany you on your journey. This will help you to stay motivated.

7

. You are not starting at the identity level

We often get caught up in the world of appearances. In the search for the best method, or in excuses for not having enough time, not having enough money or not having enough energy.

If you let your circumstances guide you, you will not succeed, because you will only repeat your circumstances.

Real change requires you to change your being. Your identity. Creating health from within.

8

. There is a lack of integrity / responsibility towards yourself

We are reliable above all else. We keep our promises, are there when someone needs support, are helpful and honest. But what about ourselves?

Do you keep your promises to yourself? Are you always there for yourself? Do you act in your best interest? Are you giving yourself the support you need?

9

. You don't trust your own signals and want to solve everything through your head

I experience people telling me time and time again that I don't think bread is good for me, or that I get flatulence whenever I eat dairy products, that I probably don't tolerate fruit very well etc. etc. And yet they continue to eat these things. And yet they continue to eat these things on the grounds that they taste so good. Or that they're afraid they won't be full otherwise.

If you notice things like this that aren't good for you, then leave them out. Otherwise you can't really get healthy.

10. You underestimate the power of habit

We have been eating and living the way we eat and live for a very long time. Habits have been formed over the years. That's why you shouldn't underestimate what it means to change such long-standing habits and how much internal resistance there is.

Our reptilian brain perceives change as a danger. Even if they are changes for the better. Therefore, adjust to this resistance and remember that you are the thinker of your thoughts and you can always say: this is the new me now. I'm not like that anymore. I'm doing things differently now.

So there you have it, the main reasons why you're not making progress with your health. Did you find yourself in one or more points?

What are you going to change next?

Remember, if you want to improve, change something, you'll only be able to do it if you don't keep doing the same thing you've always done.
